eSCL spesifikasyonu tarafından sağlanan "uscan" protokolünü kullanan bir saldırgan, Brother tarafından sağlanan aygıt yazılımını uygulayan çok fonksiyonlu yazıcıların seri numarasını tespit edebilir. Bu seri numarası, varsayılan yönetici şifresini hesaplamak için CVE-2024-51978 ile açıklanan açıktan yararlanılarak kullanılabilir. Bu açık, tek farkın saldırganın uzak cihazın seri numarasını öğrenmek için kullandığı protokol olmasıyla birlikte CVE-2024-51977 ile benzerdir. eSCL/uscan vektörü genellikle yalnızca yerel ağda erişime açıktır. eSCL spesifikasyonunu uygulayan herhangi bir keşif hizmeti bu zafiyeti istismar etmek için kullanılabilir ve bu tür uygulamalardan biri de runZero Explorer'dır. Varsayılan yönetici şifresinin değiştirilmesi, hesaplanan varsayılan yönetici şifresi artık doğru şifre olmayacağı için bu zafiyeti neredeyse etkisiz hale getirecektir.
